2009 Hong Kong Movie London Screening

Jackie Chan

If you want to kick off the Spring Season with some high-octane Hong Kong Action Cinema then we have great news! Now is your chance to watch some of the best of Hong Kong Cinema on the BIG screen. In conjunction with Screen Power & Jade Screen Magazine a 3-movie London screening will be staged on a Saturday (10am-5pm) in mid/late March 2009.

The 3-movie screenings include:

THE PRODIGAL SON:

This is the 1983 film with which director Sammo Hung invented and introduced the ‘New Wave’ of Hong Kong cinema - lightning fast fight scenes with actual contact involved, no wires, no tricks, multiple camera angles and snappy editing to create an almost musical rhythm - which was continued into the great Jackie Chan hits of the 80’s and 90’sbrought the genre international recognition previously only achieved by Bruce Lee and paved the way for Hong Kong movies to develop the massive and constantly expanding worldwide following they enjoy today.

Yuen Biao - probably the greatest martial arts gymnast ever to appear on the big screen - stars alongside the late great Lam Ching-ying - a man who commanded the highest respect from Bruce Lee himself - and Sammo Hung, supported by the talented Frankie Chan.

The Prodigal Son is based on a true story: a colourful and action-packed tribute to Wing Chun legend Leung Jaan, one of China’s most enduring martial arts heroes. From his early days, through his training and heroic battles, these are the adventures of a true hero who loses his innocence and gains strength and empathy in his pursuit of honour and martial arts mastery. A true classic……

POLICE STORY:

Police Story is regarded by fans and critics alike as the apex of Jackie Chan’s celebrated career. Breaking new ground with its breathtaking fights and stunt sequences, it very quickly became a standard-bearer for Hong Kong Cinema all over the World.

Featuring a top-notch cast, which includes multi-award-winning actresses Brigitte Lin and Maggie Cheung, director Chan combines a compelling storyline of an honest cop on the run from a false murder charge with dynamic visuals and full-blooded fight action which is electrified with emotional underscoring. A true classic of Hong Kong cinema!

In the case of this particular project the price of excellence was high, with many of Jackie’s elite stunt team being seriously injured during the course of principal photography. The opening bus sequence alone sent 4 stunt players to hospital for a long term vacation, and Jackie has been unable to get insurance coverage for any of his Hong Kong projects ever since

POLICE STORY 2:

Hard-hitting, big budget sequel to Jackie Chan’s most acclaimed movie, Police Story. Contains some of the best stuntwork from Jackie Chan’s celebrated career. A massive hit all over Asia and on the international theatrical exhibition circuit. A true genre classic!

Jackie plays, Kevin Chan, demoted and harrassed for his one-man war against a gang of criminals, decides to take a much needed vacation, but is back in business when Hong Kong becomes the target for a string of bomb scares…

Screening Tickets are £20 each and places are limited to 54 seats only. If you would like to attend, please email us your name, address, contact telephone number and the amount of tickets you would like to us at: office@jade-screen.com
