Andy Lau Wanted For Host 2

The Host

Following the success of the 2006 South Korean movie ’The Host’, two sequels were devised that will be shot simultaneously. The first of these is a direct sequel that has already begun shooting in Korea whilst it’s counterpart will be directed by Mainland China’s Ning Hao and is set to star Andy Lau.

For the Chinese version,  the story for ‘The Host 2′ will be relocated to Mainland China and the monster will emerge from a tourist spot that Andy’s character happens to visiting. The budget for the movie is expected to be around US$12 million and the production will be handled by Ning Hao’s own company. Other cast members for the project are expected to be selected from both South Korean and Chinese actors.

In a recent interview, Ning Hao was quizzed about his involvment with the project, “Correct, I’m indeed collaborating with the Korean film company to shoot this monster film. I’ve [the] intention of casting Andy Lau in this film, but currently it’s still early [although] if he wishes to take part in this project, I’ll be delighted.  As we’re still in the initial stage for this film, I can’t reveal any more details.”

When asked if he is also planning to go to Xinjiang with Andy to shoot another movie, Ning Hao avoided the question as he replied: “This film is still in the process of being approved in China, thus I cannot say anything about it.”

Following Andy’s investment in Ning Hao’s ‘Crazy Stone’, the two have become good friends and Andy is always willing to lower his fee to appear in his films, However, he is clearly a very busy man and Andy’s representatives were unwilling to comment on the project at this time.

This would be interesting. The Host was a great film. Korean cinema is getting better and better.
