Another Wing Chun Movie
It seems everyone is Kung-fu fighting their way to the box-office in Hong Kong right now! Albert Yeung’s Emperor Film Group is the next Production house who is intending to shoot a movie about the Wing Chung style of Kung-fu made famous by the late Bruce Lee.
The film is expected to begin shooting on location in Mainland China later next month (with some interior scenes shot back in Hong Kong at a later date) with Benny Chan Muk-sing as director (New Police Story, Rob-B-Hood, Invisible target) and rumour has it that Emperor Films are hoping to snag a certain Sammo Hung as action director.
The only confirmed cast list so far are the films main leads: Nicholas Tse and Gillian Chung. Before landing Chung, the female lead was originally going to be for Hong Kong model turned singer turned actress Isabella Leong but because of her current and on-going public dispute with the company, the other half of the Twins was chosen instead.
Chung’s “Twins” side-kick Charlene Choi was reported as saying, “Gillian is feeling better now, and as it has always been her dream to do a Kung-fu film. She has recently bought some Wing Chun books too. I often tease her for studying martial arts books! She’s also training in Wing Chun Kung-fu under some coaches now too.”
We’ll be following the progress of this new movie in Jade Screen Magazine so stay tuned!

If Wing Chun movies are the new popular film genre in Hong Kong and Chinese films I hope they cast some decent people and not these canto-pop stars who need months of pre-training and still suck! Bring back Leung Kar-yan and Yuen Biao to the big screen.
