Dennis Chan Checks In!
You may have already heard about Sammo Hung’s new actioner WuShu well now we have a little more info for you and some behind-the-scenes photos courtesy of our friend and Hong Kong actor/producer/director Dennis Chan. Always a pleasure to hear from you Dennis!
“Hello Jade Screen, this is Dennis Chan, I have just produced and co-Directed a new project with Anthony Szeto starring Sammo Hung called WuShu. The Executive Producers are Jackie Chan and John Sham. Wu means Martial, Shu means Art. Besides Life & Death action scenes, the film also focuses on the Elegance and Spirit of Wushu. The Film was shot entirely on-location in Shantung, with full-support from one of China’s most prominent WuShu Institutes there. Right now we’re in post-production stage, preparing for a warm-up introduction in Cannes. Hope everyone enjoys it! - Dennis Chan, April 14th 2008″

WuShu: Synopsis:
A straight up martial arts film, Wushu directed by Antony Szeto has now finished filming. The project stars Sammo Hung with Jackie Chan and Dennis Chan producing. WuShu literally translates as “martial arts” and is a more accurate term then the widely used kung-fu. The movie promises plenty of action and is a coming of age feel good drama. Will there be spraying blood and physically impossible moves? We’re betting not, but it sounds sweet nonetheless.
A modern day martial arts drama, WuShu features rarely seen training of young martial artists in China. Set in an actual 3,000 student strong martial arts school in a remote part of Shandong, China, WuShu tells the story of Li Er - a talented teenage sanda fighter (Chinese art of kickboxing) who falls in love with a beautiful girl training in WuShu (a martial arts form made famous by international action star, Jet Li).
In order to win her heart, Li Er goes against his coach’s desire to make him the provincial sanda champion and takes up the art of WuShu instead. Li Er struggles with losing his sanda champion status to becoming a no body in WuShu, while at the same time tries to get his girl to notice him and not getting kicked out of school for his poor marks.
WuShu will show real life martial arts, starring talented young martial artists, in their actual stark yet exotic location. The budget for WuShu is an impressive US$1.5million. Look out for more information on this exciting new project in Jade Screen Magazine shortly.

I loved Dennis in the Kickboxer films! It’s wonderful to see him still so active in the Chinese film industry…
