Donnie Yen is Yip Man!
When at a recent Hong Kong promotional event, Donnie Yen was wearing sunglasses. It turns out that there was a gash around Donnie’s left eye, “When rehearsing an action scene in my new movie Yip Man whereby I fight against a group of people, an axe wielder accidentally slashed the side near my left eye. Blood was gushing out.” he told reporters.
Yen was worried that he would be disfigured. Fortunately, the doctor on the China set immediately used an ice bag to stop the bleeding. When he was rushed to the hospital he found he needed no stitches and filming wasn’t affected in any way.
Yen says that his new movie, Yip Man is the film he is most excited about as Yip Man was the mentor and teacher of his idol Bruce Lee. Yen also said he has spent months prior to filming training in the Wing Chun style of Kung-fu and learning more about Yip Man through his two sons.
Because of the countless injuries he has sustained over the years, Yen sighs, saying that after a few years, after shooting a few more films that he is keen to do he’d retire backstage. Instead of acting, he’d be working behind the scenes as producer, martial arts director, before the audience grows tired of him as he gets older. He wants to retire as an actor when he’s at his peak.
More news and developments on Donnie Yen’s Yip Man soon in Jade Screen Magazine.
