According to reports in Asia, legendary action choregrapher Sammo Hung is set to step out from behind the camera to appear in the upcoming sequel to Ip Man. Sammo will play a Hung Gar Fist master who looks down on the art of Wing Chun, resulting in rivalry and an eventual sparring match with master Ip Man.

Originally, the plot for the sequel was going to focus on a young Bruce Lee but due to ongoing negotiations with the Lee family, this idea has had to be postponed until the third film. Director Wilson Yip has also been forced to abandon his intentions to shoot the sequels back-to-back, with production of Ip Man 2 now due to begin this coming August.
