Forbidden Kingdom’s US Release
The Forbidden Kingdom DVD, released September 9 in the States can be found in different sets for different tastes and budgets.
The bare bones DVD is a single disc that gives the option of full screen or wide screen. The next step up is the 2-Disc Special Edition. It comes in a very snazzy box complete with 3D effects. By tilting the box, you can even switch the positions of Jet and Jackie’s names in the corner. Then there’s the Blu-ray version for those who have either a Blu-ray player or Playstation 3 and a good high defintion television.a dual-layer BD50 using an MPEG4/AVC codec.
The Special Edition and the Blu-ray versions are chock full of extras, including:
*Commentary by Rob Minkoff and John Fusco
*The Kung Fu Dream Team
*Dangerous Beauty
*Discovering China
*Filming in Chinawood
*The Monkey King and the Eight Immortals
*Storyboarding and Previs- The Movie Before The Movie
*Blooper Reel
*Deleted Scenes
The Blue-Ray Edition also includes a picture-in-picture feature that can run while the film is playing to give great behind the scenes insights and interviews. Plus there’s a MOLOG feature, described as a network connected community and interactive movie blog tool set.
Both the Blu-ray and Special edition come as a two disc set with the second disc being a digital copy of the disc which will not play on a stand alone DVD player, but will work on Apple, Macintosh and Windows. You insert the disc into your computer and then follow instructions on how to upload it to your iTunes, iPod, iPhone or Windows Media Player by following on screen instructions.
Be sure to read all about it as we review the discs in an upcoming issue of Screen Power.
