Jackie Chan Unveils New Shaolin Temple TV Series

Jackie Chan

Last week, while receiving an honourary professorship from the Hong Kong Savannah College of Art and Design, Jackie Chan revealed that he will be producing a new 30-part Shaolin Temple TV series featuring a number of finalists from his own 2008 Chinese TV show ‘The Disciple’. The show will apparently be a modern-day version of the original story.

‘The Discple’ was a Chinese reality TV show in which contestants competed to become a potential successor to Jackie Chan. The lucky winners were all signed on to Jackie Chan’s talent agency with the promise of future work and a number of proejcts with Jackie himself.

The upcoming Shaolin Temple show will be a collaboration between Chan’s own company and Beijing TV. The cast will be picked from the top 30 finalists from ‘The Disciple’, with priority being given to the final 16 who are already signed to Jackie’s agency. The Martial Arts choreography will be handled by the famed Jackie Chan Stunt Team.

Production is set to begin in Spring 2009 with the possibility of a few celebrity cameos, including Jackie himself which would help sale the TV series to overseas territories.

I do hope Jackie makes an appearance in this and gets someone decent to choregraph the action – Sammo Hung would be best!
