Jackie Chan’s The Disciple Ends!
Beijing was a buzz over the weekend as well as most of China as the final episode of Jackie Chan’s The Disciple television programme was broadcast. Not only was the studio audience packed with supporters of the remaining candidates but also several famous faces such as actor Yu Rong-guang, actress Cheng Pei-pei and directors John Woo and Tsui Hark and Seasonal Films head Ng See-yuen.
The contest winner is Jack Tu Sheng-cheng who trained in martial arts under his father since the age of six. The runners-up were Jerry Liau and Yang Zheng. Jackie now takes Jack Tu Sheng-cheng as his disciple. Jack Tu will now get to follow Jackie Chan all over the world and to learn his skills on movie-making, action and stunts.
Now that the contest is over - in conjunction with Emperor Motion Pictures, Beijing TV Station, China Film Group, Beijing Forbidden City Films and his own Hong Kong based Production House, JCE Films Ltd, Jackie will be producing three modern day actioners, “Won’t Tell You”, “Tropical Tornado” and “Speedpost 206″ as well as one action TV series with them all playing the featured lead roles.
But what of the remaining 16 finalists? Jackie hadn’t forgotten them and to reward them for all their hard work they will all have the opportunity to take part in the three announced projects. Director Stanley Tong and Cinematographer Peter Pau are the Executive Producers, mainland talents Jiang Tao, Xie Dong, and Cai Rong-hui will be the three project Directors. On all the aforementioned projects, The Jackie Chan Stunt Team will choreograph the action and martial arts sequences.
A detailed look at The Disciple contest will appear in the next issue of Screen Power Magazine.
