John Woo Taking Hollywood Values To China
John Woo was in Los Angeles this week attending a press conference for the US release of Red Cliff. The filmmaker spoke out about how easy it was to make a film like the massively successful Red Cliff as opposed to a Hollywood movie. “Let me put it this way: it’s always easier making a movie like Red Cliff in Asia”, woo explained. “Everything was so simple. In China, I just walked into my office and let them know that I wanted to make a movie called Red Cliff and they said OK! lets do it!”.
For his new film, Flyers Tigers, Woo is bringing in a whole load of American talent to work alongside his China production company. “Red Cliff was a movie that I wanted to make since I first started working in Hollywood”, Woo said. “I learn’t a lot from so many good people so with Red Cliff and now for Flying Tigers I thought it was about time to bring what I learned from Hollywood back to Asia”.
