Hong Kong’s Media Asia Films have confirmed that they will be producing the upcoming remake of the classic A Chinese Ghost Story. The original film was loosely based on a short story in the Qing Dynasty literature, “Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio” which was written by Pu Song-ling.

Gordon Chan is currently the front runner to direct the new movie whilst Miriam Yeung has been approached to play Nie Xiao-qian and Huang Xiao-ming is wanted for the role of Ning Cai-cheng. Donnie Yen was also reportedly offered a part but his manager has confirmed that he has already turned it down. A Chinese Ghost Story will be remembered as the film to launch the career of actress Joey Wong.
