Our Sincerest Condolences To Jackie
We at Screen Power and Jade Screen would like to express our deepest sympathy to Jackie and his family for the loss of Mr Charles “Papa” Chan.
Many of Jackie’s fans are as familiar with Papa Chan as they are with Jackie, because very often, where Jackie was, so was Papa Chan. Film sets, fan gatherings and charitable events…he would be there wearing his Greek fisherman’s hat and a smile. Like his son, he would often pose for photos with fans.
Jackie was always loving and giving to his father, making sure that when he could not be with him, his father was well taken care of.
In his 93 years, he had a myriad of experiences. He was born in Shandong province, escaping to Hong Kong during the war between the Communists and Nationalist parties. Jackie was fond of telling the story of how, when he was born the family was so poor that he almost sold Jackie to the doctor who delivered him in order to pay the hospital bill. At the “Knight of the Dragon” show in Toronto, Jackie called out to his father who was in the audience, “Aren’t you glad now, that you didn’t?!” Not only did Papa Chan get to see his son’s rise to fame, but also the start of his grandson, Jaycee’s career in music and films. There is no doubt that Papa Chan will continue to watch over his family and that he will be smiling and at peace.
