Triangle Examined
In the late sixties, early seventies, to many kung-fu movie followers, three extraordinary Shaw Brother actors; Ti Lung, Chen Kuan-tai and David Chiang formed the Iron Triangle, because these three men starred in over a dozen of some of the finest martial arts movies that ever came out of Hong Kong. In the year 2006 a very different style of Triangle was formed, this triangle was made up of three of Hong Kong’s finest directors.
In 2006 the movie “Triangle” was announced, directing this was; Johnnie To, Ringo Lam and Tsui Hark. The movie was planned as a crime thriller, each director helming a third of the movie (running roughly thirty minutes each). Funnily enough when the movie was first announced some western reports accidentally mistaken the director’s announcement, believing that they were planning on remake the American horror movie – SAW (The movies working title was “Jigsaw”, which is the name of the serial killer in the movie).
Ignoring that statement, this crime thriller was being matched with a star cast as well as a star crew…
